Our fees are transparent and affordable, covering accommodation, daily meals, local transport, and full in-country support. Programs start from just $202 USD per week, €173 Euros per week, or £150 Pounds per week.

Additional costs to budget for include international flights, travel insurance, visa fees, safari trips and excursions, and personal spending money.

What You’ll Do as a Teaching Volunteer

Volunteer teachers in Uganda are involved in a wide variety of roles, including:

• Teaching or assisting in English and subject-based lessons

• Supporting local teachers in lesson planning and classroom activities

• Tutoring and mentoring students one-on-one

• Organizing creative activities, games, and sports

• Assisting with school administration and occasional fundraising or cleaning campaigns

Volunteers typically work Monday to Friday for 4–6 hours per day, leaving evenings and weekends free for cultural exploration and relaxation.

Arrival & Airport Pickup

Once your volunteer placement has been booked and confirmed, please arrange your flights to arrive at Entebbe International Airport (EBB) – Uganda’s only international airport.

Our local coordinator will be waiting for you at the airport at the agreed time and will provide a warm welcome. From there, you’ll be driven directly to the volunteer home in Iganga District, Eastern Uganda. The journey takes you through scenic countryside and gives you a first glimpse of everyday life in Uganda.

This pickup service ensures you arrive safely and comfortably at your new home away from home.

Volunteer Accommodation

During your stay, you will be accommodated either in our comfortable volunteer house or at an off-grid homestay for a more authentic village experience. Both options are safe, welcoming, and give you the chance to immerse yourself in the local culture.

• Meals: Three meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are provided throughout the week, from Monday to Sunday. Meals are freshly prepared, often with local ingredients, giving you a taste of Ugandan cuisine.

• Rooms: Accommodation is neat and clean, with volunteers usually sharing rooms on a same-gender basis.

• Facilities: Basic amenities are available, but please note that Wi-Fi and warm water are not guaranteed, especially at the off-grid homestay. This provides a chance to truly disconnect and embrace a simpler lifestyle.

  Iganga District lies in Eastern Uganda, part of the Busoga sub-region, with its administrative center being Iganga town.

• Neighboring Areas
  It borders Kaliro (north), Namutumba (northeast), Bugweri (east), Mayuge (south), Jinja (southwest), and Luuka (west)

• Proximity to Major Urban Centers

  • Iganga town is approximately 40–44 km northeast of Jinja, a major regional city

  • The district is around 120 km east of Kampala, Uganda’s capital, and lies along the important Uganda–Kenya highway

Requirements to Volunteer

To join our teaching volunteer programs in Uganda, you must:

• Be at least 16 years old (under 16s welcome with a parent, guardian, or faculty leader)

• Have a valid passport

• Obtain a visa (we’ll guide you through the process)

• Be open-minded, creative, and adaptable

• Pass a background check (required for those working with children)

English fluency is helpful but not strictly required. Volunteers should be ready to work with limited resources and adapt to different educational environments.

Health & Safety

Before your trip, ensure you’re up-to-date on vaccinations, especially if you’ll be working in rural or high-risk areas. Common recommended vaccines include:

• Hepatitis A & B

• Typhoid

• Tetanus

• Rabies (especially if working in wildlife or rural areas)

• Yellow Fever (required for entry into Uganda)

You must also have medical insurance covering the duration of your stay.

Program Duration and Cost

We offer flexible volunteer programs starting from 2 weeks and longer. Program fees vary but typically range between:

• £200–£2,500 for 2-week group trips

• Around £3,000 for longer-term stays
