14 Day Volunteer, Safari & Cultural Tour

This 14 day trip to Uganda combines a unique opportunity to immerse yourself into the colourful culture of Uganda, spend some time on volunteer projects and to wonder at the amazing wildlife on our safari at Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 1: Departing Heathrow UK to Uganda Entebbe International Airport.

Flight Details to be confirmed at a later date.

Day 2: Arrival Entebbe International Airport –Transfer to Kampala.

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your Tour Guide from Msafiri Tours, who will then take you to Kampala. You will travel through Entebbe to chaotic, beautiful, mysterious and pulsating Kampala, guaranteed to take your breath away!

Your first night in Uganda is at Eureka Place Hotel in Ntinda, Kampala.

This 3 star hotel has free wifi, a pool and air conditioning for your comfort.

Day 3: Kampala.

Have a relaxing morning after breakfast, by the pool or just resting and recuperating from your journey. After lunch, we will take a City Tour of some of the local historical and cultural sites, including a visit to Idi Amin’s torture chambers (optional) ,the Gadaffi Mosque, finishing the afternoon with a colourful and exciting visit to a craft market where you can barter and talk to some of the amazing local artisans.In

the evening we head out to Ndere Cultural Centre for some African traditional musical and a BBQ. Enjoy the drum and dance show that lasts for over 3 hours showcasing the tribal dances of Uganda and neighbouring countries. We return to Eureka Place Hotel in Ntinda, Kampala for a well earned night’s sleep.

Day 4: Travel to Iganga

We set off for Iganga early, with our first stop for a fruit breakfast in the Mabira Rainforest. This beautiful protected rainforest has over 200 species of trees and 300 of forest birds. Once back on the road we will briefly stop to view the almost 1km wide Owen Falls Dam (now called Nalubaale, the Luganda name for Lake Victoria), where the White Nile produces electricity for Uganda.

We will have lunch in Jinja town and continue on to the Mum Resort Hotel in Iganga, where you can have a swim, chill out and rest before dinner at the Hotel.

Day 5: Busu Village Projects, Iganga. 

After breakfast we will drive to Busu Village and have a look around the area at the various projects we shall be working on over the next few days. You will meet the staff and key leaders of the various projects and divide into groups to get to know the leaders of your project better. Packed lunch will be provided and we will return to the hotel in the evening for dinner.

Day 6: Busu, Iganga.

After breakfast at the hotel we head back to Busu to spend the whole day getting immersed into village projects, helping improve the facilities and the environment and getting to know life in the village better. Packed lunch will be provided and we will return to the hotel in the evening for dinner.

Day 7: Busu, Iganga.

After breakfast at the hotel we head back to Busu again, continuing to work on the village projects and getting to understand life in the village better. Packed lunch will be provided and we will return to the hotel in the evening for dinner.

Day 8: Busu, Iganga.

Another full day in Busu after breakfast at the Hotel, continuing to work on the village projects and getting to understand life in the village better. Packed lunch will be provided and we will return to the hotel in the evening for dinner.

Day 9: Busu and then back to Kampala.

After breakfast, we head back to Busu for our last day in the village. It’s time to complete projects or make sure they are on the right path to completion, catch up on anything you really want to do before you leave and say farewell to everyone you’ve met. It’s back to the hotel to pack those last bits and pieces then off to Kampala, stopping at Jinja for lunch.We will arrive at Eureka Place Hotel in Ntinda, Kampala, in time for dinner and a good sleep.

Day 10: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kasese.

The first day of your two day adventure safari begins with a pick up after breakfast at the hotel by your guide, who will brief you about the wildlife tour and then set off on the 6 hour drive. There are plenty of chances to stretch your legs along the way with a stopover for photography at the Equator, lunch in Mbarara town, a stop at the Igongo Cultural Centre to explore Ankole culture, finally arriving at the Simba Safari Lodge for dinner. In the evening you will be taken to have a look at traditional salt industries and mining methods on a tour around the Crater Lake region. Back to spend the night at The Simba Safari Lodge, just 4 miles from The Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 11: Queen Elizabeth National Park.

After an early morning cup of tea you are off on a ‘game viewing drive’ in the main camp at Mweya Peninsula, attractively separating Lake George from Lake Edward by the Kazinga Channel. This will provide you with the opportunity to view animals like jackals, bushbucks, forest hogs, leopards, buffaloes, elephants, lions, the beautiful Uganda Kobs and bush pigs among others. After heading back to the lodge for a late breakfast, you can relax at the poolside and catch up with a quick nap if you need it! After lunch at the lodge, you are off to enjoy a fantastic launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel, with the chance to see many beautiful birds as well as game such as buffaloes, hippos, elephants and crocodiles.

After a busy day you return to The Simba Safari Lodge for dinner and a well earned sleep. 

Day 12: Back to Kampala.

After breakfast, you will drive back to Kampala passing through Maramagambo Forest, watching out for different animals en route, with lunch along the way.

You will reach Kampala late afternoon and have dinner and spend the night at Eureka Place Hotel in Ntinda, Kampala.

Day 13: Travel to Entebbe Airport . Today is dedicated for airport transfers to Entebbe International Airport. Times to be confirmed.

Day 14: Arrival home.

The Msafari Uganda Tour costs £2000, payable in instalments.
