Gorilla habituation experiences in Uganda for groups and solo travllers
The Gorilla habituation experiences in Uganda is one of the most extraordinary wildlife adventures you can have in Uganda. Unlike standard gorilla trekking, where visitors spend just one hour with a fully habituated gorilla family, this unique experience allows you to spend up to four hours with a gorilla group still undergoing the habituation process.

What is Gorilla Habituation?
Gorilla habituation is a gradual process that helps wild mountain gorillas become comfortable around humans. It can take up to three years, during which researchers and rangers spend time with the gorillas daily—studying their behaviors, personalities, and social structures. Over time, the gorillas begin to trust people, each gorilla is given a name, and eventually, small groups such as scientists or journalists are allowed to visit. Once they are deemed ready, the gorillas become open for visitor experiences.
What Makes It Special?
During the habituation experience, guests join rangers, trackers, and researchers in following the gorillas through the forest. You’ll observe semi-habituated gorillas as they feed, play, and interact, while also learning first-hand about the challenges and progress of the habituation process. Because these gorillas are not yet fully accustomed to humans, they may behave unpredictably—sometimes hiding or moving away—making the encounter even more raw and authentic.
Where Does It Take Place?
The Gorilla Habituation Experience is exclusively offered in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, in the Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors. Currently, two gorilla families are set aside for this special program. Bwindi itself is home to around 19 habituated gorilla families, including Mubare, Habinyanja, Rushegura, Bitukura, Oruzogo, Nshongi, Mishaya, Busingye, Bweza, Kahungye, and Nkuringo.
